Has anything more perfect than this ever been written? I think not. And I rather like the subdued performance (not to mention the subdued Japanese audience) and the accented English of the Ukrainian singer.
If you're interested in Turkish foreign policy -- as I am -- this is a very good analysis. (I'm rather creeped out by Erdogan's wife and her headgear, I must say.)
SNL has not been funny in a LONG time. So it was a pleasant surprise this past weekend to see one skit that was worth more than a couple of laughs. (Hope this youtube stays up!) It was also nice to see something other than blandness out of Buble.
Devastating pictures from the Battle of the Bulge, previously unreleased (funny: I always thought WWII happened in black and white). These guys were truly the greatest generation. Can't imagine Boomers or my generation or the selfish punk Yers going through this. There's a particularly touching picture of a 15-year-old Nazi soldier among the collection -- truly captures the insanity of the Third Reich. I am reading Ian Kershaw's new book about the last gasps of Germany during the war and it is horrid. Children recruited to fight, a veritable cult of death. Add hatred of Jews to that and jihad comes to mind. (This is also shown to powerful effect in Downfall.) Below: soldiers of the Seventh Armored Division in Belgium, early 1945.
